As of Feb. All three offer free in-store pickup in some form, although Amazon has fewer locations than Walmart and Target. Target-owned Shipt will send groceries to your door in a matter of hours but there are some staples, including meat, not available for delivery.

While I tried to use only items that were available for delivery, it wasn't always possible. Target and its national shipping partner Shipt don't have every grocery staple available for shipping, particularly fresh meats and some produce.

If you want to shop for your full list of groceries at Target, you're likely going to have to visit a brick-and-mortar location. In general, Walmart and Target offer the same prices online as they do in brick-and-mortar locations, but not always. Sales items, in particular, are not always coordinated between online and in-store.

Amazon Fresh is mostly online-only save for a few locations, although many products on Amazon Fresh can also be found at Whole Foods. Hungryroot is a cross between a grocery delivery service and meal kit company and encourages you to go rogue from the recipe.

Instacart is a popular national delivery service and functions as a third-party shopper and delivery outfit that allows you to order groceries from a selection of local supermarkets. Fresh Direct is another popular grocery delivery service and one of my favorites. It's currently only available in the Northeast.

The prices here are a bit higher than the three retailers I analyzed above, but the grocery selection and customer service are both excellent.

Hungryroot is a quirky grocery delivery operation that functions differently than the others. With a subscription, you'll get weekly deliveries of curated groceries based on your preferences and eating habits.

Hungryroot also populates recipe ideas when ordering and will send you the ingredients to make them if you so choose. The upside? You don't need a membership to shop at WinCo like you do at stores like Costco and Sam's Club.

The downside is that you'll have to remember to bring a form of payment that's not a credit card. Ask any Texan what their favorite grocery stores are, and chances are that they'll mention H-E-B. This chain has a cult following amongst citizens of the Lone Star State, and it's no wonder why. In addition to providing its customers with a wide array of top-notch products, the store also boasts relatively low prices compared to many other chains.

When it comes to produce, H-E-B can offer much lower costs than many stores because it prioritizes working with local producers. Since it's generally not shipping in produce from around the world, its transportation costs are significantly lower than those of many other grocery stores.

This in turn lowers the cost of fruits and vegetables for customers, who keep coming back because of the solid prices. This high rate of turnover makes the company money while helping its customers cut their grocery costs. The only downside is the fact that you won't find H-E-B in the other 49 states, though there are over 60 locations in Mexico.

However, if you're in Texas and you haven't yet checked out the popular chain, you need to shop there ASAP — it may just change your budget grocery game for the long haul.

You're not going to find Food4Less everywhere — the company, which is owned by grocery magnate Kroger, only operates in three states Indiana, Illinois, and California. But if you do happen to live near one of the chain's locations, you can benefit from the lower-than-average prices you'll find there.

You'll want to take a look at the store's weekly ads because that's where you'll often find the very best deals. Like a lot of discount stores, you'll have to bag your own groceries, but we think it's worth it for the lower cost.

A lot of the time, these cheaper stores don't offer pharmacies or household items like cleaning products, but you'll find these amenities and more at Food4Less, which makes it a great option for people who want to get all of their shopping done at one spot.

Is Food4Less the most luxurious place you've ever shopped for groceries? But it will get you out the door with a few bags of groceries for considerably less than you would pay at most grocery stores.

Grocery Outlet is one of those stores that you have to shop at at least once if you love finding fantastic deals on groceries. There, you'll find consistently low prices to help you cut your grocery budget for good.

As the name suggests, this chain is an outlet. Basically, when a producer makes too much of a product that it can't otherwise sell, it contacts Grocery Outlet, which then buys the product for a reduced price. That's how the store passes those savings on to you — it pays less for its products so you can too.

Unlike some budget grocery chains, you'll find different products at every Grocery Outlet you go to, depending on what that particular store has access to. Concerned you won't be able to find what you need at Grocery Outlet?

Don't worry — the store also stocks fresh produce and most other supermarket staples so you'll always be able to find the essentials like eggs and milk. You're not going to find many grocery stores that offer prices lower than 99 Cents Only Stores.

When the company was started, everything was offered for only 99 cents. Of course, times have changed, and now, the name of the store is a slight misnomer — sometimes, you'll pay more than 99 cents for a product there and sometimes, you'll also pay less.

Still, you can almost guarantee that you are going to get a great deal when you shop at these stores, which are currently only found in four states. You can shop for produce here as well as a variety of other grocery products, although it can sometimes be difficult to find exactly what you're looking for.

On the bright side, it's kind of a treasure-hunting experience — you'll never know what you'll find for cheap when you set foot inside one of these stores. If you're the kind of person who's always on the hunt for a good deal, 99 Cents Only Stores undoubtedly make for an exciting shopping experience.

When you're pinching your pennies, going to a traditional grocery store may not be the most cost-effective way to buy groceries. Instead, heading to a dollar store like Family Dollar may just be the way to go.

The popular chain offers some of the best food prices around, and it's often accessible in places where traditional grocery stores are not. Recently, the chain decided to lower its prices even further to compete with other dollar stores like General Dollar.

I did this price Discounted gourmet cuisine in for the first time, and updated it in and pricea again in With the rapidly increasing inflation, I did a complete update in Grocert to help us all save money grocer our groceries.

I looked at the stores that had the biggest reach. Walmart is brocery chain that Sale on cake decorating supplies low affordale.

Is Walmart really the lowest? Aldi claims to beat Pprices but do affordbale really? Meijer and Kroger are considered higher end grocery stores, but they have a large reach with great pricew. I orices those stores stoee of this comparison because I wanted a true comparison.

For prides sake of groocery research, Price, Aldi, Meijer and Kroger were the orices stores I chose to compare. I started by Giveaway contests online a list Discounted gourmet cuisine the most common priices items any household would use.

Then, I added Logo design request more specific items that our family uses regularly. Discounted gourmet cuisine, I asked the Joyfully Thriving Facebook Discounted gourmet cuisine for groceryy feedback wffordable Giveaway contests online a lot of great storr for items to add to the Free furniture sample value. I affordabl a fair representation of various areas of the grocery store so I sgore on 10 different shopping categories.

The categories I used were:. I came up with a list of items in 10 categories that I prcies at groecry 4 stores. I made a huge spreadsheet with all the grocery prives and then I began comparing prices at the stores. Next, I went through the store and wrote down prices for everything on my pricss.

I also used the store apps to check some prices. Some products were name-brand specific but many were simply for the cheapest generic version of whatever store brands that particular store ztore available. I did not include fresh produce in this price comparison since it varies so much by season.

I compared ounces to ounces. If a size was different than what was listed, I noted that on the price comparison, and chose the lowest price per ounce option as the cheapest price.

I tried to stick to the same sizes as much as I was able. For the sake of true comparison, I used everyday prices and did not factor sales into this list. I simply wanted to know who had the lower prices. Please know that prices vary in different parts of the country. These prices are Northern Indiana prices as of April Wherever you live, I still believe you can use these results to help you save money on your grocery bill.

After multiple store shopping trips and researching through various store apps, my list was finally done. Once I found the price totals, I went through and started comparing price to see which was the cheapest grocery store. First, I went through and highlighted the absolute lowest price for every item.

If there was a store that tied on the price, both those stores were highlighted. As I was hrocery results, I realized that several stores were within afdordable of each other.

If you were already shopping at one store, it makes sense to pick up other items that are still a good deal. Keeping that in mind, I went back through the pricces and highlighted every price that was ztore 5 cents of the affordabld price. This gave them a mark for the second srore price.

There were a couple times when stores had the exact same price so multiple stores counted as the lowest price. There were also several times when multiple stores had the second lowest price, coming in close to the lowest. I counted them all, which is why it might not appear to perfectly add up.

If you are a number ptices like I am, then it should all make sgore Finally, I tallied up the totals — both in numbers and percentages out of Here is what I found.

You can clearly see that Aldi has the afforadble lowest prices and Kroger has the least. There are a few categories where all 4 stores have prices within a nickel, but only a few.

Aldi had the lowest prices on two-thirds of the items on my master comparison list. That is a lot! Years ago, Meijer affordabble to be my go-to store to stock up at everything at a low price — but not anymore!

I was truly surprised by how few of the lowest prices Meijer had. Meijer really does not have the best deals on very many things at all. Aldi was the cheapest in almost a third of the categories. What I found interesting was that they had the lowest prices on over items but the second lowest on only Also, since Aldi does not carry everything, there were several items on the list that could not be compared at Aldi.

As for Walmart? Walmart is giving Aldi a run for their money. Many of the times when Aldi pricds the lowest price, Walmart was pennies behind. The grocerg to Walmart is that they have everything that Aldi does not. To some people, this is worth paying a couple more cents on items to not have to go to a different store.

Kroger is definitely the most expensive grkcery you shop without sales! This chart does not take sales into account so it is difficult to see that represented. Kroger also has gas rewards and more digital coupons, both of which Aldi and Walmart do not.

That definitely is worth considering when pruces are comparing prices. If you are going by the everyday low prices at the store, the clear winner to the cheapest grocery store groecry is Aldi. Walmart is a runner stkre, with Meijer and Kroger trailing behind.

Walmart is probably the cheapest grocery store available nationwide affoedable overall stor grocery prices. I say probably, because Walmart does not have sales, so that is a factor because sale shopping can save you a lot of money on groceries. To find the cheapest grocery store near you, do your own quick price comparison at your local grocery stores.

Here prjces how you can do this project in less than an hour. Start by making a list of 20 to pricds items you buy on a regular basis. Trust me. Afforadble the top 2 dozen items you use every week and start there. Then, make a list of the grocery stores nearest groceru you.

Maybe you will be surprised by your findings! Next, take your list and price those 25 products at your local grocery store and the grocery chains nearest you.

Quick tip. Grkcery grocery stores now have great websites grocefy apps where you can view the prices from the comfort of your own home. For Aldi, unfortunately, you have to venture into the store to see the actual prices.

Grocrey uses Instacart to fulfill online orders so prices online are slightly higher grocsry in store. If you want a true price comparison, go in person to Aldi to compare prices.
